2026 is going to be a monumental year for Sigma Phi Epsilon at Florida International University, with a focus on purposeful development and long-term accountability. The organization is committed to developing its structures to facilitate the learning process, leadership growth, and positive interactions with the rest of the campus. With the claim, “We want to be the leaders on FIU’s campus.”
This direction is centered by the Jelke Learning Community, our home. This is not a stereotypical frat house. It will be used as an environment for academic, professional, and personal development. Its balanced design has spaces for studying, meetings, programming, relaxation, and community building.
The Jelke Learning Community has begun to influence how the chapter functions on a day-to-day basis. The space helps the chapter to be more organized and responsible since it provides members with a regular meeting, collaboration, and academic preparation space. Meanwhile, it acknowledges that the development of leadership is strictly connected with well-being and connection, both of which are facilitated with the help of shared space.
The facility can be used to hold classes, workshops, and large-scale meetings, and thus, it can be used as a resource for the university as opposed to a single-use and closed facility. Since its opening, the chapter has been approached by student organizations and campus groups that would wish to hold meetings and events in the chapter. These preliminary requests represent the practical aspect of the need to have made available convenient meeting areas and underscore the potential of the Learning Community to have a supportive role in collaborative campus programming.
The programming of 2026 in the chapter follows a similar approach to last year’s, but with many more events compared to the prior year. Dinner Etiquette and Stocks and Cigars will be maintained (in which both set in the coming weeks), as well as workshops organized by the alumni and professionals who will be teaching the students how to live in the real world. Just like last year, Sigma Phi Epsilon is also sponsoring From Greek Letters and Paws to Professional Success, a professional development program, which is happening at campus wide. Although the chapter does not own the event, its current president chairs the event through a partnership with campus partners.
The chapter will be bringing back one of its signature philanthropic events, Queen of Hearts. We will also be carrying the torch of the Dr. Seuss Days reading events and the Red Door Classic Golf Tournament. We also have other Philo events that have not been announced yet. These initiatives are being undertaken as long-term engagements and not short-term activities.
Recruitment is going GREAT! As of January 23, 2026, Vice President of the Recruitment, Sean Remedios, has bidded 20+ well-minded individuals as we look to have an amazing spring 26’ rush class.
Besides academic, professional, and service programs, a variety of brotherhood events, socials, chapter wide events have been planned by the chapter, and its annual formal will also be announced further in this semester. All these activities lead to a culture of consistency, accountability, and purposeful chapter.
In 2026, the Sigma Phi Epsilon Learning Community is a working area and a roadmap for the direction of the chapter. It does not announce arrival, but contributes to further growth not only in the chapter but in the community of the FIU as a whole through careful usage, cooperation, and a big picture.
